Possible to install tailscale at OS level?

The wrinkle is that only you can access the routed subnet. Sharing the jailed instance with a friend's tailscale account (as I want to) will give them access to that jail's environment but not the routed subnet. This is expected behaviour unfortunately. They say they are considering adding this feature at some point.
One more thing just came to my mind. You could create a unique Tailscale Authkey for your friend's device and he could use that to connect it to your device instead of the credentials. Of course he would need to switch between his Tailnet and yours, but at least it would work unless you need an uninterrupted connection.

I tried installing Scale on a spare box and was able to install Tailscale via Truecharts. That worked fine. So I may switch my actual nas to Scale.

I'm running tailscale-sidecar in a jail. This works pretty well. It shows up as a "machine" in tailscale, but only exposes the specific ports I configure. In fact, it can also communicate with other external services at the same time if you wanted to do some additional gateway action.
