I've seen various discussions (on other forums) about the differences between the DA and SR versions of the X520 and I just wanted to post this in case anyone is interested in a real world test and not just looking at specs or repeating what they have read without testing.

The SR card absolutely does work with DAC cables, contrary to some of the online discussion.

I think the following is probably correct but if not then please correct me:
X520-DA2 stands for Direct Attach (as in Direct Attach Copper)
X520-SR2 stands for Short Reach (as in Short Reach fibre)
X520-DA2 indicates a dual port card and DA1 is a single port card (same for SR2 and SR1)

As far as I can tell the actual DA and SR cards are identical but the SR cards are shipped with transceivers. This is the part I'm least confident about though so perhaps someone could clarify.
