I suppose its possible - if the ix-applications dataset gets borked by Cobia in some manner. However wouldn't / shouldn't the following work.

Bluefin:
  1. Shut down all Apps
  2. Recursive snapshot of ix-applications - if feeling extra paranoid then replicate it somewhere
  3. Upgrade to Cobia
    1. Apps Good - fine - have a nice day
    2. Apps Bad - revert to Bluefin
      1. If Apps still bad roll back snapshot
Note that I have NOT tried this - I am just ruminating. I am holding off on Cobia on my primary NAS for the moment. Waiting for .1 I think.

What 3 apps did you use (and were they Truecharts)? Will they not start or what went wrong with them?
All 3 are Truecharts; Sabnzbd, Sonarr and Radarr

After the upgrade all 3 apps were listed and showed running but non of the web GUIs were available so I rebooted again and now all 3 apps have disappeared.

Not too bothered about those 3 apps, what I am bothered about is my VM running Home Assistant. My entire house is broken because of no Zigbee.......kinda funny in a non funny way.

I also run HaOS in VM and luckily for me, it works fine.
Apps' situation on the other hand is a bit disappointing. I, like many others, have lost them. Still hoping someone shares some quick fix/workaround. Otherwise, I might start setting them up from scratch.
Recursive snapshot of ix-applications
Well, I learned it the hard way. In my defense, I migrated to Scale from Core a few weeks ago and didn't pay much attention to how Apps work really. I would do that snapshot if I knew.
That said if a system upgrade messes with any dataset I would really expect it to do that snapshot.

OK - so I went back to Cobia-RC boot environment and then back to Cobia and now my HaOS VM starts again (phew). I have zigbee again and more importantly, lights!

Apps still not working though. Nothing I can't live without whilst the team work out this mess. RC was running so well for me, so it didn't cross my mind that non-RC would break things.

Lesson learnt. Ignore the shiny upgrade button until I see no evidence of major bugs.

May I suggest that you avoid, like the plague, using PVC's for config folders. Apart from some alleged rollback ability it is a disaster waiting to happen (IMO)

Always put your config folders on a host path if you care at all about the config. I mean the app netdata doesn't need a config as far as I can tell - but plex, *arr or something with an important config should absolutly NOT be anywhere near a PVC

Backups are easy - I can snapshot the config folder and replicate it, and I can do a restore on an individual basis easily and simply. I can even repeat easily as the basic container config isn't that hard to get right.

I wish there was a way of copying / backing up the container config despite my comment above - but there isn't (yet?) its still a much better way of doing things it seems to me.

Or, of course, ditch K3S entirely. Use portainer in a VM - or some other solution.

Did an upgrade of my Bluefish test server running under Virtualbox on my laptop. Installed fine Had 2 apps installed and both updated fine. Pool upgrade went fine. It did require a power cycle, not just a reboot to make the change from one to the other.

I'm pretty sure when I did my upgrade it didn't ask me to update the pools........hmmmm

After reading these three pages of problems, knowing many are duplicates, it is concerning. Almost reminds me of the version that shale not be named. I hope this wasn't rushing into a release just to meeting a schedule. I will test but likely return to my current version as I'm certain an update will be coming out in the near future.

I too cannot open up all the jira tickets listed, a few yes. I'm curious if that is because some of those tickets may have been closed.

I'm really confused now. My 3 apps just started working again. I randomly just tried connecting to the Sabnzbd GUI and it's up....

It certainly wasn't working with 3 hours uptime, I didn't reboot it. Just sprang into life. Odd!

But its shiny
I had snapshots for everything.
Updated and upgraded the pool to the new *shiny* zfs version.
Found out apps are not working, rolled back to Bluefin,
stared at the missing pools and it was at that exact moment I knew I played myself :'D

That's good advice, one I was already aware of (learned from Tom Lawrence videos on YT), but it's not preventing this problem. I used hostpath.
Yes, I have not lost any config data and I could probably recreate all the apps and they would use old config/data. It's still some work I would like to avoid. But if no one comes up with another solution, this is the path I will take.

Speaking of jumping into the latest shiny things - I'm aware of this. As mentioned before, I recently migrated from Core to Scale. I decided to replace all of my Jails with Apps so I picked 23.10-RC.1, thinking there would be hardly any changes moving from RC to final (in case of some software RC gets promoted to final with just a name switch). That assumption seemed to be wrong.
I always wait until .2
Yep, that's the lesson. Internal testing is never enough. People don't install pre-release. And if they do there are still bugs introduced between pre-release and final. It's almost always better to delay upgrades :)

Or, of course, ditch K3S entirely. Use portainer in a VM - or some other solution.
That's an option. But if I ditched Truenas as a Apps running platform then I would most probably ditch its hypervisor as well and run Core (which is more stable) in VM using it for just plain file sharing. I still believe that Scale can get better in this regard though :)

Almost flawless...

Updating broke my OneDrive cloud backup... some issue with Cloud Credential. I'll try to look into this during the weekend...

That is a tuff lesson to learn but I always advise to not upgrade the pool unless there is a specific new feature you need. This allows you to roll back if needed.

Can someone of IX-systems give us a update regarding this issue (app services not starting NAS-124776)?

Our systems/apps are completely broken and downgrading back to Bluefin does not solve this issue.

I updates a few systems and so far no application issues but I did find that it stopped sending to my log server. I have not found a fix so get the logs to send but removing the remote server does allow to Syslog to work.

App pools only seem to have issues if it's on a pool with encryption on the root dataset while the ix-applications datset is unencrypted itself.

Like @asap2go says this issue effects only systems with encrypted root dataset (has been confirmed in ticket NAS-124776)

Again it would be great if someone of IXsystems can give us update regarding the fix and when it will be out.
