I have freenas installed, but i'm not sure if i'm doing it right.
I'm not sure if i need to use zvols or datasets. i'm currently using 2x3tb in mirror. i created 1 volume and 4 datasets for all the users and for jail. should i use zvol instead? if 1 user uploads something and i install a plugin, and the same user uploads again. are the datasets spread out?

I'm also trying to get 2 virtualmachines running, but i'm not sure if i also need to use zvol for the jail (if the virtualmachine is installed in a jail). Is it possible to use control the virtualmachine on a different computer on the network on wifi?

I'm also have transfer speed problems. the ports on the motherboard are both 1 Gb/s (i217m and i210at) but the router is 100Mb/s. when transfering it peaks at 12 Mb/s (the limit of 100mb/s) but most of the time it is at 3Mb/s. I tried different compression and no compression but still the same problem. There was no difference in speed with or without compression

sorry for my really bad english :(.

So I am not understanding problem.. When you are transfering what?? You are getting actually near wire speed... What is going on when you are only moving 3MB/sec?

Probably just idle work here and there. 16GB isn't much RAM for running VMs.

3MB/s isn't much, i'm gonna upgrade the router/switch soon. they are atleast 7 years old :(. the cpu is at idle al the time and i have 14gb left.

i'm running a gonna experiment with BSD or linux and i plan to run 2x windows 7/8.1. they don't run at the same time. 3.5gb for windows and 1gb for linux is probably ok.

can someone recommand some routers/switches? don't know if i'm gonna build one myself since i don't really know much about routers.
