Some people adviced me against the Ryzen 3600 in one of my previous posts and im looking at a few other options. I came across the Xeon bronze chips. They're quite affordable, but have low clockspeeds. Does this matter that much? How much will it influence 10gb transfer speeds on SMB?.. bottleneck or not?...

I would try to keep to something that is at least 2.6 GHz. I have used slower processors but the system was not as responsive.
Keep in mind that ZFS uses RAM for cache and FreeNAS uses compression for data on disk. These are affected by CPU resources.

thanks! that's what I was afraid of. The step up to the xeon silver line doubles the cost, but i guess I might be worth it then. Thanks!
