Why isn't iperf3 installed?

Am I missing something, or is only iperf 2.0.5 installed on the most recent production builds of FreeNAS 9.3?

Code:
 % iperf -v
 iperf version 2.0.5 (08 Jul 2010) pthreads

% iperf3
CORRECT>iperf (y|n|e|a)? no
iperf3: Command not found.

It's now been several years since iperf3 came out, maybe it's time to switch up -- or have both?

You would have to have both since iperf3 isn't backwards compatible. Does iperf3 add something that iperf doesn't have? It's not like it's a feature of freenas that gets used consistently. Its use is very simple and probably a one time thing.

Ideally we should have both. The binaries are tiny.

and .... seriously, iperf2 is like 5 years old and in maintenance mode....

but..... first, if we were -- for some reason -- to stick with iperf2, then at least we should upgrade to the latest 2.0.8.... I'm sure there are all sorts of nasty bugs and security holes in 2.0.5.

but.... seriously, let's get iperf3 in there.

"security holes"? In a tool you run by hand from the command line, on both sides, i.e., supervised? Man, if I'm trying to break into my own machine from the command line, and I need to use a security hole in a non-SUID executable to do it, I've gotta be the dumbest-f*** cracker on the planet.

I don't know. There are some pretty dumb crackers where I live, and most of them don't use computers. :D

Sorry. I'll quit making disparaging comments about cyberjock's relatives. :D

I've gotten blown off on a variety of bug reports too. Don't feel bad.

I laughed so hard at this, I had to log in to like it, then decided to nominate the post for the funniest post so far in 2016. You crack me up Brother!
