Okay, so I've been using LastPass for many years, however I have been somewhat dissatisfied by it's performance. I've found it to be slow, it often bugs out and unable to fill password forms, the Android app doesn't always fill applications. So I'm now looking for an alternative. I am considering Bitwarden or perhaps Dashlane, but would like to hear what the FreeNAS community uses.

So, what do you guys use? I've added a poll to this thread. If you use something else or don't use one, please say why.

I have been using KeePass for years. Both at home and at work

I’ve been using 1Password for a few years now and it works well, although is now an annual subscription license.

I started using 1Password in 2010. Have tried out a couple of others since but stuck with 1Password for daily use as I've not found anything else that works as well as it does.

I've not considered 1Password because historically they've been Mac only, however looking at their site, they now have a Windows version that appears to be feature parity with the Mac one. How's the Android support for 1Password?

I use keypass mostly because I don't want my passwords managed by a a company in the cloud.

Im not a fan of anything that saves my passwords in reversible encryption or otherwise.

I use 1Password on Android daily. Works great. No complaints.

Yes they appear to have invested heavily in recent years in getting out of their former Mac-only niche. I use the Windows version sometimes and it seems to do all the same things as the Mac version.

According to this post they have a command-line client that works on FreeBSD, but I haven't got around to trying it:

Wait. What?!
You might have already tried 1Password for Linux and Chrome OS, but we know what really makes developers salivate: a CLI. You can download op for macOS, Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and NetBSD on i386, ARM, and AMD64 architectures. Oh, and our Windows friends can play too!
Okay, so this has just put 1Password as the front runner.

I switched from PasswordSafe to KeePassXC a few years ago. It works seamless on both my Windows and FreeBSD machines.

Pretty sure they are owned by Apple Inc. now though, which might put some off

I've been happily using Keepass since 2012 or so. Works very well on multiple devices in conjunction with OneDrive (I expect dropbox to be similarly effective, if that's your thing). It has a conflict manager to handle cases when entries are edited in multiple locations and the file changes from under it.

I used to use LastPass, but then one day in a frenzied security moment I changed my password and then promptly forgot/lost it. All of their recovery options failed and I was unable to recover my account. Now I use Keepass and although I wasn't sure about it at first, it has all turned out and I would recommend it.

Same thing happened with the wife's account. This is why 1Password is so appealing. The recovery options seem to be more robust.

It doesn't surprise me that I wasn't the only one to discover that LastPass issue, truly sad for something that gets so highly recommended in the tech community. Although I'm certainly at fault too for losing my password.

I considered 1Password but ultimately decided that I wasn't willing to take on another subscription service.

I'm willing to pay for something that saves me time and offers support. With full-time work, wife and two kids I find that I don't have as much time as I used to have and I certainly don't have time to self host things these days (as much as I would like to). Anything to save me a headache.

Another vote for 1Password. Some will be put off by the subscription service, but password managers are pretty close to essential now, and it costs money to pay for the developers.

I absolutely agree. I didn't mean to imply that I won't/don't pay for software and services, I just prefer to pay once/lifetime and not as a subscription.
