Hey guys,

I've a small freeNAS server up an running since a few month and wanted to add WebDAV or/and maybe better owncloud service for it. Seems to be easy so far as the plugins are preconfigured... but: I have an already configurated Samba Volume with permissions set and Data on it.

As far as I've read/seen the tutorials, you have to have an empty volume BEFORE, as the services start inside jails, and THEN copy the whole data and set the permissions. The only solution that comes to my mind without copying everything to an external non-ZFS-device, which I'd like to avoid, is: shrink the existing volume, create the owncloud one, copy the data, delete the old one and inflate the new one.

Am I correct with that? Or is there a possibility to create the WebDAV / owncloud service on an already existing structure, without copying and screwing the whole permissions up?

Cheers & thanks in advance for any answers,

Steve

If you're on 9.3, you can share any existing volume/dataset using the built-in WebDav service. However, this assumes that that volume/dataset is not already being shared by another service, in your case, CIFS.

For jails, yes, each lives on its own dataset which is created for that purpose at jail creation time.
