Hi all,

I've just had 6x 3TB WD Red's delivered. Unfortunately they're the older build with Nasware 2.0 and state on the box that they are ok for nas storage between 1 and 5 bays.

My questions:
* will they work ok for 6x3tb with freenas?
* is it possible to upgrade the Nasware version (I don't think it is)

Unfortunately, I bought the disks from PC world because I had a £500 gift card. Pc world don't have the disks in anymore and won't have the Nasware 3 ones. Returning the disks then will only give me a £500 gift card and I don't want it!

Alternatively, anyone want to make me an offer on the card?!

Thanks

Edit:typo

You've been taken by marketing.

Tons of people have used Reds with more (some way more) than 5 bays, with no issues. Me included.

Yes they will work in a 6x3TB configuration, no problem.
No you can not upgrade "NASware".

Thank you both - I assumed that they would which is why I ordered them but was surprised at the explicit branding to the contrary.
Is there anything I need to do before I use them? I remember reading that some people change a couple of settings first.

No, just keep an eye on their Load Cycle Counts at the beginning. If they start increasing a lot, they may require wdidle (they shouldn't, though).

Just go and use them! Don't worry. I also have 6x3TB RED's with Nasware 2.0... that's just a marketing term anyway!
