Way to control fans?

Hello!

I got some PWM fans on my server, issue is the Mobo temp monitor is bugged and is reading 28 billion farenheit (yes). So the PWM fans are at max, is there a way to circumvent this?

What motherboard exactly? Unless the fans are controlled by a BMC, you're unlikely to be successful in circumventing this.

Actually, yes, you can get a Fan Controller and put a PWM signal into Port 1, which will control the remaining ports. I haven't purchased a PWM controller so can't say for sure which will work, though I do have that breakout box and it works well. The one troublesome concern with most of the controllers is exposed circuit traces--generally something that gets people in trouble when a watch band clasp or ring brushes against them (say what you will about unplugging systems, it still happens).

Good news: The fans are probably controlled by the BMC and it's an ASpeed. Do you have a conspicuous gold American Megatrends (or Megatrands) MegaRAC gold sticker?

It's an ASUS board and I went through this with their tech support many years ago... you can read the fan settings (speed and thresholds), but can't set them via ipmi.

I ended up getting a Corsair Commander pro and re-engineering one of the PID fan scripts from the forum to run it.

My suggestion for a way that doesn't need code.

D'oh, how annoying of them.

Is also a good way to potentially fry your hardware... caution needed here if you're looking for quiet, but don't want to risk a cooked HBA or overheated disks failing early.

Good reminder of something I considered obvious but it might not be for new users.
