Hi everyone,

My server configration list:
W3223
Epc621d8a
128g ddr4 2400
Pool: 2x2t adata sx8200
Gtx1050ti passthrough in vm

My VM is inside sx8200, not compressed, sync disabled, cpu mode is host passthrough

However, I found my VM is really slow response... When using file browser, each action response time like 0.6 seconds... Does anyone have any idea?

I'd suggest running performance tests for each part of the VM... storage, networking, UI., compute. Find the simplest test that has a poor result.

I also have a lot of issues with responsiveness, I've tried Ubuntu and Windows 10. I have my VMs on mirrored sata ssds, and CPU performance seems fine. Just really chugs when trying to access files. I think I've narrowed it down to the disk speed in my case. When running Crystal Disk Mark it gets about this far before it completely locks up the system.

After a little while of sitting here the windows 10 VM locks up completely and Truenas throws this alert:

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations and I'm curious if I'm seeing the same issue as OP. Running a crystal disk mark test should validate if it is.

Are you using virtio or ahci? That can make a lot of difference with kvm

I would try that - has saved my bacon before on regular kvm setups.

Hmm... That gave me a BSOD on boot up.
"INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE."
I'll play around with it a bit and maybe reinstall windows and post back with my results.

I've had that in the past, boot your normal vm again as ahci but mount a second temporary vdisk as virtio

Once your in Windows get the drivers installed and you should be able to swap the main drive back to virtio and remove the temp disk

I had this same issue, but was already using VirtIO drivers. Can I ask if you had TrueNAS local apps set to a pool yet? If not, that was my issue (at least in part).

For some reason, even though TrueNAS local apps should have nothing to do with the VMs, NOT having the apps assigned to a pool (even if you don't use or install any apps) causes my VMs to run so slow and laggy that it feels like a $200 budget PC from the 2000s.
