I am finding that Cyber Power UPS's (at least the new ones [Purchased 6/4/22]), aren't jiving with any of the Cyber Power Drivers currently included with 13. I'm using a Cyber Power -SL750U. I can find it on the USB Bus, (I've tried all ports/hosts. It attempt's to connect and then disconnects. I believe after some research, it would be an easier task to pick up a supported, APC, UPS. They seem to have the best compatibility. Any information or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Glad to apart of the FreeBSD/FreeNAS/TrueNAS experience! This is my first NAS build with an i7-2600 Optiplex, with a 4TB Pool as my first.

Oh goodie! So this continues even with TrueNAS 13 (i.e, FreeBSD 13.x).

I've had the same issue with two different Cyber Power UPS'es from FreeNAS 11 through TrueNAS Core 12.0-U8.1, and it looks like it continues with 13.0-RELEASE. :frown:

My previous unit was the SX650U and my current one is the CP1500AVRLCD, which is supposed to work with NUT using the usbhid-ups driver.

The issue is random, unclear, and intermittent. I've tried all types of combinations:
  • Different USB cables
  • Different ports
  • Selecting a port manually in the options (or choosing "auto")
  • Stopping and starting the service multiple times
  • Unplugging and re-inserting the cable multiple times
  • Adding auxiliary options to the text field for upsd.conf, such as: MAXAGE 25
I've read online, from as far back as 2014 of others facing similar issues with a UPS + NUT (mostly FreeBSD or FreeNAS/TrueNAS).

But the units work, and they behave properly (such as safely shutting down the server upon losing line power) if the log isn't getting spammed with errors about communication issues or "stale data".

Sometimes a combination of stopping and starting the service, with a few unplugging and re-plugging seems to do the trick.

I was actually about to create a new topic about this issue until I saw your thread.

Try this combination and see if it helps:

For the driver, select usbhid-ups.

Under the auxiliary parameters for ups.conf:
pollinterval = 15

Under the auxiliary parameters for upsd.conf:
MAXAGE 25

Then restart the UPS service, and finally unplug and re-insert the cable. (Might have to restart the service again after re-inserting the cable.)

This is why I connect my UPS to my pfSense firewall as a UPS Master and all TrueNAS clients are UPS Slaves.

THIS. THIS is the Ultimate way. I need to ALSO configure my network. I'll attempt the other suggestions as well, but to be honest ^ config would be best for my pool and client machines...

I'm guessing TrueNAS is calling on the UPS to quickly? I'll report back with any changes or not. Thank you for the information!

You haven't given any indication of your hardware configuration, but if its a gaming motherboard, you might try turning off USB advanced features in the bios. It's possible that there are conflicts with the FreeBSD drivers.

Tis not. It's actually a Dell Optiplex 990 with an i7-2600 cpu. 2, 4TB WD Red Plus drives mirroring. I could use more Ram in the future, running with the minimum 8gb atm. She is "serving" me well at the moment. It just... WORKS. Which is Awesome. haha

I do want to get this figured out though, it's great for the occasional brown out, But I'll prolly end up, upgrading to something a little beefier, AND manufactured by APC. I bought blindly before reading that quite a few Cyber Power UPS's don't play well with the software.

I did mention it ever so slight in the post.

Presumably nut on pfsense - which setup seems a little challenging.
