Hi

I bought a APC Back-UPS BX (BX650CI-GR - AVR to be specific) but i cannot find a driver for it in freenas 9.2.1.9. Is there any solution to make freenas work with this device?

Thank you

Have you tried the generic USB HID or the APC drivers?

Where do I find the generic USB HID driver?
I have tried all of the APC drivers from the dropdown menu, none of them work... Do I have to choose Master or Slave? I have only the freeNAS box hooked up to the ups system.
How do I know if the driver is working? so far I just unplugged the AC and observed if freeNAS goes for a shutdown when ups is on battery after some seconds. When I plug in the USB cable to the freeNAS server, the console gives "Unknown USB device: vendor 0x051d product 0x0002 bus uhub3"

You want it to be master. If you choose one of the USB APC upses then you will get the usb_hid driver. But there are various parameters that differ depending which UPS you choose. The Freenas instructions say you have to enter the right USB device from the console message you quote. On Linux you don't need to say which USB port, but maybe you do on FreeBSD. You will have given your UPS a name, and if, at the command line, you type upsc yourupsname <return> you will get a screenful of data if the driver is working. If none of the APC USB drivers work the next place to look is the NUT homepage. I can't remember if they have a forum, but they do accept queries.

I would like to figure out these upsc commands. If I use:
upsc -L
to list all ups devices, I get "Error: Connection failure: Connection refused"
If I use:
upsc ups@freenas.local:/dev/ugen1.3
It complains because the port is supposed to be a number, but "/dev/ugen1.3" is the port that I connected to UPS to and according to the manual I have to put it like this in the webGUI.

If ups is the name you have given your UPS, then:

upsc ups

should work if the driver is functioning.

I'm real newb to all of this but I just got an APC b600G and I think I was able to get it running. I first plugged in the USB and got the same "Unknown USB device error" but was able to see the USB port. I then choose the driver "APC ups 2 Back-UPS USB USB (usbhid-ups)", made a few settings changes before saving and then turned on the UPS service. Doing a "uspc ups600" (mine is named ups600) to confirm driver is functioning. I hope this helps.
