I installed TrueNAS and just left it without updating. Now i have tried doing the updates from the webgui and also tried the manual update file but it keeps failing. At this point even the apps no longer update. Not sure where to go from here, any advise will be appreciated.

Current version: TrueNAS-SCALE-21.08-BETA.2

your USB drives are probably the problem. USB drives are discouraged as they do not have the reliability required.
save your config, get genuine SSDs, and either try replacing the USB drives OR reinstalling clean and restoring your config.
