Hi everyone,

I am unable to connect to my server running TrueNAS (unsure of witch version, but it isn't too long since i last updated).

After a restart of the server I was no longer able to connect to the server.(not in connection with an update or anything similar) I wasn't able to find the IP address of the server either when checking the connections on my router it doesn't show up under Clients as it has done before. Not getting any results with ipconfig either.

When restarting the server i can hear the beeps from the motherboard as normal.

So far I have tried:
- Checking cable connections, found nothing wrong. Tried different ports without that helping.
- USB device with the OS is discoverable on my PC.
- Restarted the server multiple times.

I use the server as a media server running Plex.

So i need help with what i can try next to figure out what has happened and if possible to get back up and running again.

My setup:
Case: Fractal Design Define R5

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 v5 Skylake

CPU fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212X

Motherboard: Supermicro X11SSL-F

HDD: 6 3TB WD Red

Power Supply: Corsair RM650X, 650 Watt, 80 PLUS Gold

RAM: Crucial DDR4-2133 EEC (CT8G4WFD8213) 2x8GB

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing to do would be to attach a screen to it and see what's on that.

So i finally got myself a screen to connect to the server and the error i get is the following:
«This is a NAS data disk and can not boot system. System halted»

So something is up with the USB i boot the OS from? Any thoughts on what i should do next?

Thanks

The USB stick (used as the "OS" boot pool) might have died and/or failed during a live system.

I'm assuming you set the BIOS to boot from the USB, and it's not being detected so it moves down to the next available drive, which happens to be one of your pool's data drives.

Any thoughts on what i should do next?

You can re-install TrueNAS on a new SSD, which will make your SSD the new "boot-pool". Then re-import your configuration file to restore all of your settings.

This assumes you've exported a recent backup of your TrueNAS confg.

Just make sure not to touch any of your data drives. The installer should be smart enough not to overwrite them, but double and triple-check that the installer is going to install to the new SSD.

Thanks for the help so far!

I have now gotten a Kingston 240GB SSD.
I successfully installed TrueNAS Core - 13.0, but I still can’t connect through my network. The server has a wired connection to my router.

I’ve attached what i see when it boots.

Where should i go from here?

Since this is a new setup, and before you can import the old config (done via the web GUI), you might have to re-configure the network settings from this menu screen.

Do you remember what you used last time? Is there any special / custom settings being used by your router?

Menu option #1 should allow you to set the IP address or use DHCP, or at least view the current IP address assigned to the server.

Last time I was able to do a headless install, so I got assigned an IP address automatically. So something is different this time around.

When I try to do anything with 1) Configure Network Interfaces I get the error I've attached.

Could it be worth a try to downgrade to TrueNAS 12?

So I tried to downgrade to the legacy version TrueNAS CORE 12.0-U8.1.
This didn't work as well. After installing and restarting it didn't get longer than the attacked images when booting up.

Anyone have any good ideas on what i can try next?

Thank you.
