Why is 'VNC only allowed for UEFI' ? Adding a VNC device to a UEFI-CSM boot enabled VM is disallowed, which doesn't make sense as it's a console interface, the boot method should not matter.

I think this is a limitation of the Bhyve hypervisor.

That might be fallout from the Redmine upgrade. I'll make a ticket as it should be viewable.

Hi,

I am using freenas 11.1 and am trying to create a windows server 2008 VM in freenas but that iso is CSM and when I try to install with that, VNC doesn't show anything for me to install.
I tried to install windows 10 in another VM but that is UEFI and thus worked perfectly.
I there another way to connect to a VM started from Freenas to be able to complete the installation since VNC doesn't seem to work ?

Thank you

Wow I'm hitting this right now - another bump.

How do I view the console, of a Bhyve VM, that is booting via "CSM" (???) normal BIOS / classic bootable ISO?!

The development team is largely doing the virtualization on their spare time because it is not part of the commercial product. FreeNAS is free because of the development of TrueNAS and TrueNAS (if I recall correctly) doesn't include virtualization.
