Hey, I'm new to the TrueNAS community and wanted to ask how to install MineOS, which allows you to host a server yourself, under TrueNAS Scale. If it doesn't work, are there other ways to create or host a Minecraft server?

Oh, Thank you very much. I didn't know that you just have to activate the games in the catalogu. Thought there was another catalogue or something. But after I have now downloaded and set up the Minecraft Java server and wanted to test it out, there was another small problem. It doesn't run so well and lags a bit. BlockUpdates happen quite late even with me and I access from the same network. Whether it is already accessible from outside my network, I could not test yet, but if you have to set that, thank you if you explain it to me before. I haven't been able to test whether it's accessible from outside of my network, but if you have to set it up, thank you if you explain it to me.

I run mineos in a jail on TN CORE without problems. For hardware specs see the "Main private NAS" in my signature.

You might want to increase the default resource allocation limits (CPU and RAM allocated to the container).
Minecraft specifically has a tendancy to be quite the memory monster at times :)

If you need any more help, please be sure to file a support ticket at our discord so our support staff can walk you though the performance issues.

TrueCharts Apps have their own resource limits ;-)

Thanks, it was really due to the limited resources. But then I wanted to test again to invite a buddy and he couldn't join. He said I had to set "Port Forwarding" or use the public IP for it, but I tried it and didn't get any further. I can only join the server from my network it seems, but when someone else wants to join it doesn't work. What do I have to adjust?

What you have to adjust is probably at the router you use for your Internet uplink. You need to forward e.g. port 25565 (the standard port for a Minecraft server) from your external IP address to the IP address of your TrueNAS host. How to do that depends on your router.

You can find your external IP address to tell your friend either in your router (again ) or with a service like whatsmyip.net.
