TrueNAS 13.0 Upgrade - Won't boot

Just upgraded to TrueNAS 13.0 (from 12.0U8) now my system won't boot. The pre-boot menu comes up and once it goes to the boot process just a white square block shows in the corner, and it never proceeds any further. I tried to download the 13.0 full installer and the exact same thing happens.

Thanks! Any help is appreciated!

Press <space> in the pre-boot menu. You should be able to select your previous 12.0-U8 installation to reboot back into 12.0-U8.

I tried this per your recommendation, but it didn't work. Maybe I am doing it wrong. I did the following:
Selected "7. Boot Environments"
Selected "2. Active" until 12.0-U8.1 was shown. There were four options available.
Selected "3. bootfs". There were no options available except 13.0-RELEASE
Pressed [ENTER]. I assume that is all I needed to do.

Same problem.

Sorry I couldn't edit my post. The same square comes up but eventually a mouse cursor shows and also a menu and 12.0 boots.

Is there a chance that 13 boots but without video output? Doesn't it answer to network after some time? I have at least one new ASUS board that has UEFI console settings screwedby BIOS enough for new FreeBSD not select it as a primary console, preferring serial instead.

Unfortunately no, the network never seems to work. I am running an ASUS motherboard though. I am going to try to update the BIOS to see if this resolves the problem.

BIOS update did not help the boot issues. The installer fails to boot too when trying a clean install.

I had UEFI boot issues after updating to 13. I created new install media booted it in BIOS/Legacy mode(the USB also wouldnt boot in UEFI mode). Ran the in place update/upgrade in the installer. Did the format drive option when prompted and changed the boot mode for the installed OS to BIOS/Legacy. Then updated my BIOS to reflect this boot mode and everything working and I lost nothing. My symptoms were slightly different I didnt quite make it to the truenas splash screen

I'm not saying you should do this. But I was stuck and this worked for me. My NAS is a brand new build and didn't have a backup of my config yet but I had migrated a bunch of data onto it that I didn't want to do again. In theory you could do this again later if a new version of this came out later that fixed your problem to convert back to UEFI boot.

Thanks.

Thanks! Unfortunately, my system doesn't support legacy boot mode. It is unfortunate for me since it looks like TrueNAS will no longer be a viable solution for me. This was a new build, and I am not ready to rebuild/replace this system. TrueNAS 12 installs and boots just fine.

Could you try an earlier bios version to see if you can legacy boot? Try turning of security features like TPM them see if you can enable legacy. Most modern boards do support legacy boot but they often have more hoops to jump through to get it enabled.
