Hello,

yesterday I updated from TrueNAS Core 13.0-RELEASE (from 12) and since then my mac can no longer start any TimeMachine Backups.

If I try to (re) add the drive the mac tells me

The selected network backup disk does not support the required capabilities.
Please choose a different network backup disk.

I tried

- rebooting the NAS
- rebooting the mac
- restarting SMB
- disabling the share / disabling the "multi user time machine share" preset
- connecting to other shares (they work)
- connecting to the TimeMachine share manually (that works, I see my $macbookname.sparsebundle, can create files via finder)

Any help is appreciated.

Were you able to work through this issue? Did you report it as a bug?

The most common problem I've seen with time machine on upgrades (there have been several tickets of these sorts) has been caused by auxiliary parameters on the SMB share or SMB service. Do note that capabilities related to time machine are negotiated on the first connection to the SMB server and so _all_ shares on the MacOS client need to be unmounted after fixing / removing auxiliary parameters.

Can you elaborate on the auxiliary parameters piece?

I have four shares, and you were correct - some of the shares had auxiliary parameters. I deleted all of the aux parameters, and I disabled 3 of 4 shares. I then restarted SMB, and I relaunched Finder. I'm still not able to view the one share anymore in my Finder like I used to be able to. Very curious how to fix this.

I have a Raspberry Pi w/ an SMB share on it, and that one is showing just fine in the sidebar so my hunch is that this is a TrueNAS (or TrueNAS config) issue, not a MacOS issue.

Well,

Here's an update. I've gone through all of my shares and the SMB settings, and I've verified that there's no auxiliary parameters anymore. I've disabled all shares, and I created a new one. I cannot browse to it, and I can indeed see other network locations in MacOS. This used to work just fine. I'm not sure what has changed. I'll continue to play with it, but I'd love to get any help I can here!
