I've recently acquired an Ablecom CS-M50 case for a new NAS build in the future, what's everyone's thoughts about the types of processors that can be cooled effectively in a case this size? Was wondering about a thermal wattage I should be aiming for.

For thermal limits you should be asking the manufacturer that....

That is correct, the manufacturer says 95W TDP. For FreeNAS you should be able to easily find a processor that fits that bill. I am running mine with an Atom C2750 (Avoton) and everything looks great.

Oh. 95 watts? Okay, then this wont be much of an issue then. I don't want anything nearly that power hungry.
I did want something other than an embedded-design processor. The limited height in the motherboard area is something I'll have to keep in mind (will likely need a third-party cooler).

Even with the manufacturer's rating, you have to wonder what they base their figure on (like is the rating just for and case with the motherboard, or if it includes a full complement of drives generating heat above it).

I think that 95W is for the CPU.

They write it like this:
Support ATOM, i3 / i5 / i7 up to 95W TDP

I don't see anything else in the manufacturer's info about temperature. Which drives do you plan to run?

WD Reds, and a SSD for Jails, etc.

I only have one WD Red at the moment, and a random Samsung drive holding the Jails for now, so I'll get a chance to see how the heat runs with two drives and make some determinations then.
