Hi, I'm new to FreeNas. I've been doing a lot of testing over the last few days before setting it up at home.
but a question has come up that I haven't seen an answer to.
If you break the disk where the FreeNas system is, what is the procedure to install a new system and that it continues to recognize the previous raid and that there is no loss of data.
Thank you very much to all of you.
maybe it is something very silly but I have not found a solution (sorry)

Install the system as per the manual. Make sure you install to the correct disk (unplug the data disks perhaps).
Then after booting up, import the saved configuration. You do have one don't you ?
Then reboot with everything plugged in.
You say "raid" ,do you mean RaidZ1 or 2 or mirroring ?

Hi, Alecmascot, thanks for answering.
For now I'm just doing tests in virtual machines before I start using it to know how to solve the problems.
Ok I understand that I have to make a copy of the disk where the system is and then recover it.
I understand that the manual where all the information is is this: https://www.ixsystems.com/documentation/freenas/11.3-U4/freenas.html

Thank you very much. I'm sorry if any questions are a little bit awkward since I'm new to using it.

No, you save the configuration: System > General > Save Config

Config is also saved automatically in the system dataset.

You may also want to run a script to copy config to a folder daily. I verify config consistency and copy it to a backup folder daily, keep the last 60 days, and sync to a OneDrive.

That’s by no means required though. You can always import the pool, grab the automated config backup from system dataset, and load that.

Thank you very much for responding so quickly.

in principle my idea is a raid 1 and to connect to it by means of some folders in network nothing else.

so I wouldn't need to create daily copies of the system with one already with the saved configuration should do.

I will keep on researching about FreeNas and if possible I will try to do some courses to improve my CV.

When I do the test I will tell if it has worked for me

hhanks you

If you mean that by traditional RAID levels, that is called a "mirror vdev" in ZFS and has two or more disks in it, with all disks mirroring content.

thank you both for helping me.
I have made the tests to recover the disk of the system and everything perfect. I hope soon to be able to do the nas and to be able to see his performance and to go improving it with things that go learning
