Wondering if it's more advantageous (performance-wise) to stripe SSDs as option 1 or option 2
(ref. picture - excuse the 10K drives)

I can add 2 drives and drag slider right OR down - dragging right makes a mirror by default but you can change to stripe, from the drop-down menu.

Interesting related FreeBSD article below... different drive scheme - same concept I believe?

Hmm, that's a sub-optimal interface, to be honest. I have no idea what will happen there. There aren't multiple types of stripes. It's always like this:

A pool is made up of striped vdevs
The vdevs can be single drives, N-way mirrors, or RAIDZ. You cannot stripe drives in a vdev.

I just tested. Performance results are basically the same.
As I said, the end result is always the same (unless you end up with mirrors).
