Stripe warning when creating a pool.

Hello,
I obtained a used Dell Poweredge server that was used for a camera system. I did not install new disks so I figured a RAID1 configuration using 2 disks and having a 3rd disk as hot swappable would be best before I installed Truenas Core 13. When creating a pool I have to agree to a stripe configuration reminding me data loss is possible. Is data loss possible? I am new to all this and need some help. Thanks

You're probably not configuring it right - you might want to take a screenshot for us to review.

Hello,
My 1st image did not show up from STORAGE and then POOLS. I can send it if you need it. The NAS is working fine, I lay awake at night wondering if I will experience data loss someday. Won't I be covered if on the server I created a RAID1 to use as pool SNORKEL?
Thanks

I was able to obtain the other screenshot this morning. Using a mirror RAID setup on the Dell Poweredge before I created a pool should help prevent data loss - correct? Thanks

No, very much incorrect. You should not be using hardware RAID or even a hardware RAID controller pretending to not be one. All disks must be exposed to TrueNAS directly.

You didn't specify what server you're using, but Dell has their own HBAs for Gen. 13 systems and newer (mostly the HBA330 mini, but since Broadcom has EoLed the SAS3008 they have a new model based on the SAS3008).

Thanks, I understand it better. I used Truenas to create the pool from two drives and used Truenas to create a spare. Seems my other free servers are dinosaurs and cannot make the drives non-raid. As a side note, a drive dated 2015 failed while I was working on converting it from a raid 1. Oh well - now I have a spare PFsense firewall if I need one.
