Thanks freenas team for this nice storage-distro.
Due to the high demand in security IP cameras around the world , one important feature that seems will improve freenas is the ability to record stream from cctv cameras , by a new plugin .
I have a couple of cameras recording streams 24 h ,in a linux box with the command:

cvlc -vvv rtsp://192.168.1.118:554/video.mp4 --sout=file/ts:camera.mpg

and these files are "scp" daily to the freenas box for security backup pourposes.

basically we only need vlc installed on freenas .

If you provide a good GUI on the browser with the IP, port # , you expand the target market for security corporations
around the world , and can be a good business for you too.
Freenas can be a nice and wonderful box to store a lot of streams form a lot of cameras in a single box.
regards
Manuel

Why VLC? I think I see what your command does.. Why not run something like http://www.zoneminder.com/ ... It woud be nice as a PBI..I'm sure there are many others..

Edit: if your network could support it you could just install some AV drives and use them for recording etc.. If the cameras have their own setup etc..

Hello Yatti , Zoneminder is ok too , the idea is to get all the streams stored in the freenas box, I,m sure that could be interesting , this new feature.
Now I scp files to freenas for security , most of us , perhaps with a simple IP camera conected to our lan , can protect our houses from thieves, and expand
the use of freenas to other business.
I don,t know what are AV drives , I,m sorry , but most of the Ip cameras allow live remote view , even in smartphones in that way:
rtsp://<IP>:<PORT>/video.3gp
The idea are not complex setups in the freenas box, just simple plugin to get this streams.I do not want a TV on the freenas , just a file server /storage box
thanks for your reply
