Split boot disk to create a cache disk?

Hi

When I first built my NAS, I was completely new to TrueNAS and didn't plan ahead too much. So I used a 1tb mv2 ssd for boot which turns out to be a bit on the large side...

My question is: is it possible to shrink the boot pool and create a second pool from the remaining space, to use as for example a cache pool?

It can be done from the command line, but isn't what the web UI expects, and could break during upgrades.

The "cache" (aka L2ARC) requires at least 64 GB of RAM to work properly. For special cases it can also be more.

I would rephrase what @Samuel Tai wrote: Manually re-partitioning the boot disk creates an unsupported configuration. In a non-commercial context this is fine as long you know 100% what the boundary conditions are. If you don't, there is considerable risk. This can go so far that you accidentally loose data because of an unfortunate "collaboration" of several factors. Is the probability for this 25%? Probably not. But why take any chances (unless it's a playground system)?

With the prices for small SSDs being what they are these days, from my perspective there is really no reason to go down that route.

Thank you for your replies, I will just leave the system as it is then. It still works fine :)
