If you got it installed and running your likely good but no new installs are going to work since updating is no longer possible.

It it doesn't take much to figure out who sent the notice but for the moment they have to take the hub down.

Never said it made sense but considering where the DMCA came from i am not all that surprised.

Original sickrage started with a bunch of a guys and another person named ethan if i remember correctly as a fork of sickbread.

There was issues with the way ethan was behaving so the others decided to go off and produce there own which is the one we use now.
It was more to the heart of the reason it was made in the first place and updated far more often.

There more too it of course but that's the basics of it.

Not sure if merely adding his name back to the code in question will be enough or if he really trying to shut it down.

It's a pity the "penalty of perjury" under the DMCA is never enforced--his github repo says the software is GPL3, but his notice says he never released the code. But he can make all the fraudulent DMCA claims he wants with no risk. GitHub's own review should have caught this.

Yeah it stinks.

I doubt in the end he going to win and likely do nothing more then annoy the hell out of people which certainly isn't going to help his popularity.
A very ill thought out behavior on his part that may very likely backfire but its wait and see at the moment.

Ok after some digging and chatting here whats going on.

Echelon one of the original guys back when the sickrage fork went on a power trip some time back and most of the development team left to make the present fork we are using now.

His behavior was childish at best and now hte filed s DMCA claim against sickrage, sickgear and medusa which are all forks of the sickbread program in one form or another.

His claim is that they removed his name and comments from work he did on sickrage which the others are based on.
It is true that his name and comments where removed which seems on the surface that he has a valid claim.
But if you know the history of sickrage or dig just a little deeper you find out what a piece of work the guy is as and that the work actually belongs to a chap named midgetspy.
This is hardly some great secret and something that github is likely aware of already and is quite possibly going to get echelon banned from github.
His named was removed by the other developers and restored back to midgetspy

Its been 4 days or so since the DMCA's were done and Echelon has a max of 10 days to file in court or things are dropped and return to normal.

This is a case of childish behavior from someone who lacks maturity and frankly common sense.

Yeah and Echelon seems to be in a lot of trouble now.

It was common knowledge who was reasonable for the code in sickrage so this was inevitable.
Makes one wonder just how far down the crazy path Echelon gone to think this would work out for him.
