Secure own cloud transfer

I just installed freenas and managed to install owncloud from jails.

I wish to backup all my laptops/pcs at home as well as my work pc as well as some other friends pcs

If I install owncloud client on a pc will the data between the client and the server be encrypted ?

Only if you install a SSL certificate.

I followed the below steps for the certificate:

but when trying to connect to own cloud I am getting:

Well, you need to explicitly trust the certificate, since it wasn't derived from a trusted root certificate.
