Hi Everyone, I just installed Truenas Scale on a new system which has quite a few RGB fans (Lian Li SL-120 if that matters). I'd like to know if it's ok to boot into Ubuntu off a usb to set my RGB colors then restart without the USB and back to normal (Truenas) operation. I know the fans should remember their last setting but I haven't seen this option discussed in the forums. Would it work or should I avoid trying it?

I'm guessing my hardware configuration is irrelevant in this case. Thank you in advance.

Probably. No harm would be done to TrueNAS as long as you don't do anything that would alter contents of the disks... maybe messing with BIOS boot order may require some missing again to put back.

Thought I'd post an update here to help anyone that would like to control the Lian-Li fan RGB's.

I installed a windows VM and set it to use minimal resources and no network access.
I passed thru the USB header that the fans were connected to.
I installed L-Connect and set my desired colors.
I set the L-Connect software to auto start with windows and set the VM to autostart with Truenas.
As a bonus I set windows to hibernate within 1 min.
That's it!

When Truenas is powered down and restarted, the fans will use the default color scheme but as soon as the system is up and running you'll see the colors automatically change to your setting with virtually no impact to overall performance (except the amount of RAM you allocated to the VM but the CPU will be freed up).

Hope this helps someone.
