Root password no longer accepted

Server is remote and no longer accepts root password for GUI. Have ssh access using same password. Any way to fix this without sending a person to the server? any way to boot from ssh using a prior configuration?

You can bring up the console menu by running /etc/netcli. One of the options there is to reset the root password.
