Quick question, can I just shut the server down and replace one disk. Start it back up and will it then rebuild that disk? RAID Z2.
Nothing wrong I just want to swap out a disk with a new one

Thanks

If you're asking whether the server will automatically rebuild the array using the new disk, with no manual intervention, the answer is no--you'll need to tell TrueNAS to replace the missing disk with the new one. The manual describes the process.

So I'm reading and I apologize for being slow. I can just add a drive, extend the pool and add as a spare? Then if a drive starts to fail it can automatically replace the drive? (Hot spare) I'm assuming I can also manually move it to replace an existing drive?

Yes, you can add the new disk as a spare, and (at least under some circumstances) if a disk fails the spare will automatically be resilvered in. I don't use hot spares, as I don't see a whole lot of sense in accumulating running hours on a disk without its doing something useful.

If you have the space, you don't have to add it as a spare. Just do the replacement, making sure to not offline the old disk before the resilver is done.
