Renaming disks

Hello,
is it possible to rename a disk? Say I have a da6 failing, and wanted to replace it. Now, my drive is still on the way, and it will be the first time I do this, but I would reckon that the new drive will get a next number in line, which is in my case da12. So when I replace da6 with da12, I will have a pool consisting of da1-da5 and da7-da10 and da12. Correct?
Now, if yes, is there a way I can rename da12 back to da6?
It would also be a convenient way of keeping relation storage-bay and disk-name the same (as in da6 is in bay 6).
Thank you.

Device names aren't stable between boots.

Oh poo. They've remained same over many reboots though. Thank you.

Sure, and they generally will--but they aren't guaranteed to do so. But whenever you reboot the system, da12 will probably become da6.
