I have for my parents, moved My Documents (Win 7) to a share on their FreeNAS box (FreeNAS 9.3 aka. NAS02).

Problem is, i often get error message "the recycle bin is corrupted".

Why? And how can i get this fixed?

What happens if you try to put something in the recycle bin? Guessing: it doesn't work. I'd suggest checking permissions.

It's hard enough moving it to a drive other than C:\ - Windows just doesn't behave correctly when these little things aren't done like they are in a typical installation. It's silly, but decades of legacy stuff tend to do that.

I don't have a lot of experience with moving what would normally be local folders inside a profile to the NAS, but the two times I've seen it done it didn't "work 100% of the time" nor did it work "100% properly".

I don't know how to fix your issue, but I'd highly recommend you not do this. I've seen problems where the syncing from the NAS to Windows desktop, then back doesn't work 100% and files just disappear because the sync failed.

Yeah i've seen strange stuff before with the my documents folder, but not with the recycle bin. Also... it did work fine some versions ago before FreeNAS 9.3.

My folks aren't that good with basic windows knowhow... so i moved the folder to be sure all they do ends up on the nas and not locally... guess i'll have to move it back and do some educationg instead

It might be a better idea to keep "my documents" on the local machine and configure a robocopy job to sync it up with your NAS. You'll probably want to have robocopy exclude junction points and temp files.

Huh. That's odd.

I'll trie, but i don't use the recycle. It's set to delete files immediately and not to move them to the bin.
