Brocade VDX is somewhat complicated. I'm not sure i'd recommend one of those unless you have experience with the platform and/or access to Brocade manuals and software updates. Brocade switches are also vey picky about Twinax and optics. So you might run up additional costs on the cabling side.

The F10 switch's interface is very similar to IOS. Manuals are available from Dell's web site. I would go that route if I had to choose one of those links.

How are you planning to connect your FreeNAS to this?

you can LAGG 10gig but if you need the bandwidth you might be better of looking at the 40g hardware options especially if you haven't purchased yet.

Twinax compatibility can be measured in 2 dimensions..

1) Active or Passive cables.. Some interfaces (NIC or Switch) require active, some require passive. some support both.
2) "Certified" hardware.. Some vendors only will allow "blessed" cables/optics. Sometimes there's an override, sometimes there isn't.

Also, some vendors license SFP+ ports, so you could end up with a switch that requires port licenses.

If you go with Brocade, you will have to confirm all of the above. They do port licenses, and require "blessed" optics and active cables on some switches. Most of the rest of the civilized world doesn't.

Great heads up.
Thank you I will definitely not go that route.
