SOLVED "PSU must be SSI-compatible" (wrong: a stock psu >= ATX 2.02 is good)

The hardware docs for my new A1SRM-2558F say that the PSU should not only be of high quality and conform to "ATX 2.02 or above", "it must [my emphasis] also be SSI compliant." They don't say why.

That bothers me since the SSI spec apparently is purely server oriented and specifies 3 connectors (the usual 2x12 main connector, plus a 2x4 12v EPS connector, and a 1x5 data connector for the use of the Base Management System that controls fan speeds and similar. If there are other compliance strictures, nobody seems to know about them.

But that 2558F board only has the 2x12 main connector. So does any decent PSU12V 2.02 or above qualify? I hope so, because I can't find any ATX-form-factor PSUs that claim to be SSI-compliant.

What are others here using, if there is anyone else using that board rather than the ITX one or the ASRock one?

Isn't that the custom Supermicro form-factor board?

The regular miniITX one can use 24-pin ATX OR an ATX12V-like header with +12V only.

No, it's the µATX one. I'd mailed Supermicro about it, and they just got back to me saying that a standard ATX 2.02 or better is fine. So apparently whoever wrote up the hardware description cannibalised it from another board and forgot to take out that line.

There's a lot of that that goes on in this business. A finely tuned bull**** detector is a good thing to possess; congratulations, yours passed
