Hi,

I am new to the truenas idea, but I want to build a home True Nas application. I have a few questions regarding the usage of this future true Nas scale server.

1. I am planning to use this server mainly for storage, maybe next loud application and Plex. I know all those features are available in Scale. My questions. As the new computer will be next to my tv I was wandering if it is going to be possible if I invest more into the hardware to use this machine occasionally for gaming in the living room and general windows stuff. I was wondering which of the following options is better.

1 option: to install windows as a virtual machine which will be directly accessed from the machine via HDMI cable to the tv. Will this allow me to use this windows VM efficiently.

2 option can I install windows on another SSD on the same computer and run it on the Tv via HDMI cable. Can both operating systems be running in the same time without turning off the truenas application.

Thank you for your answer.

Out of the two presented options only the first is possible.
Meaning, the box is booting TrueNAS as a NAS OS with hypervisor (ability to run VMs) options.
Nextcloud, Plex, Windows can be those VMs running if/when desired...

Even in this setup using the Windows VM for gaming might be far from ideal (general windows stuff should be OK).
If you use a discreet graphics card and pass it to the Windows VM some gaming should be possible.
I'm not a gamer, no first hand experience...

I run a Windows VM quite efficiently on my TrueNAS Scale machine. I also run Plex and NextCloud Apps. Works great.
