ownCloud Install Anyone?

Good Evening

I have been an OMV user for many years. I ran this in a VM under ESX with my SAS controller passed through to the VM. My drives were put together with MergerFS and SnapRAID for parity. On this, I had a docker-compose file with all the containers I used.

I have since installed TrueNAS Scale RC1-1 as an ESX VM and again passed through the SAS controller. I have set up my pool, added the necessary SMB shares and have my Mac backup to a Timemachine share. So far so good.

Using the TrueCharts catalogue (great work here) I have added most of the app I use (followed the TrueCharts channel videos on YouTube). I have noticed that the WebUI of Scale becomes unresponsive. Not sure if this is to do with the apps, Scale or just my setup.

One of the apps I like to use is ownCloud. I prefer this to Nextcloud (personally I find this bloated). I had this in OMV in my docker-compose file but to be honest I am new to Kubernetes and Helm. Would anyone be able to provide any assistance on how to install this along with a DB?

Many thanks in advance,
James

It depends a bit:
If you want to also use things like Ingress (assuming you use that, as we heavily advice people to use it), you'll have to create your own Helm Chart (and/or SCALE App) and deal with the consequences/responsibilities that come with that.

However, if you do not use Ingress or any of the special features we supply, it should generally be possible using the "Big Blue Button" and (optionally) our Postgresql App

That being said: We would advice to use our Nextcloud deployment. While the nextcloud project as a whole is indeed bloated, most of that is put into optional Apps that you do not have to install on Nextcloud. The bare-bones install of Nextcloud is not much more bloated than OwnCloud.

What also needs to be mentioned is that OwnCloud is moving away from it's traditional deployment in favor of OwnCloud OCIs (or App for which is not 100% stable). So migrating owncloud (a depricated product), might not be very time-and-effort optimal.

Thank you for your response. I did spin up a Nextcloud install earlier today, It just seemed slower (dumping files into the web GUI) than ownCloud. Especially processing files at the end. In saying that, as long as it works.........
