So I installed FreeNAS 11 to also be able to create vm's. but it's not doing what it's supposed to do. back when i used an older version of FreeNAS it just instantly showed up in my "network and sharing center" and now my pc can't even find it (not even when i type \\ipaddres\...). now i had to follow a youtube tutorial but it's still not working correctly. i was able to "find" the nas (only by manually typing in the ip). but now when i log it throws an error saying "the network folder specified is currently mapped using a different name and password. to connect using a different user name and password, first disconnect any existing mappings to this share"

the network folder specified is currantly mapped using a different name and password. to connect using a different user name and password, first disconnect any existing mappings to this share
You are authenticated to your FreeNAS server using a different name.

Check your connections to it by running net use in the Windows Command Prompt.

i don't understand, i am using the correct username and password... i ran net use but it didn't fix the problem. i created a group with the same name as the dataset, then created a user with that group as auxiliary group. then i changed the permissions so the owner is "nobody" and the group is the group i just created. and then i shared that folder with smb. but i also tried "allow guest" but it still asks for a login and when i do i still get the same error

another update. i did the exact same thing in a virtual installation and was just able to click "FREENAS" in the network and sharing center. and when i did i was able to do whatever i want just fine. this must be a bug then. either just my windows install or a hardware incompatibility... anyway, assuming it's just my windows installation. what should i do? windows network sharing is the worst :(

So for the last month, I have had the same issues. I have followed every darn thread I could read about this. Then today I read a thread that I simply can not find again on the Microsoft Forum. This time it worked. Simply type in the IP address of the server. Instead of typing \\Freenas, or whatever your server name is, type in the IP address of the freenas server. In my case, it worked. Hopefully, this is not redundant info and some help.
