TrueNAS is not designed to run on a laptop, which is your root problem. Your more immediate issue is the Realtek ethernet. See:

may not be meant to run on laptop, but has to be a small software issue just trying to see if anyone knows what it would be, not just that its laptop ethernet

It is indeed a "small software issue". The Realtek ethernet sucks. Please see

The Realtek driver is awful and often doesn't work correctly with various knock-off versions of the chips, and sometimes doesn't even work well with legitimate Realtek parts. However, Realtek isn't interested in providing support to driver authors, so it will remain an issue for the foreseeable future.

Additionally, TrueNAS CORE requires a minimum of 16GB RAM, and most laptops do not have sufficient storage devices to allow you to set up a pool. So even if you were to work your way around this, ...

gotta love bad answers, if you say its realteks fault ok, will try something else, but true nas only needs 8 GB per truenas site

So you're going to tell the person who has almost 17,000 posts over more than a decade, with MANY responses to Realtek problems, who not only handed you a link explaining the Realtek problems, but actually also WROTE that article, that it's a bad answer?

Gotta love it.

As for the minimum memory requirement, it got bumped up, and you almost certainly passed it on the way to download TrueNAS. Also, does your laptop have "Two identically-sized devices for a single storage pool"?

Also...

FWIW, try using DHCP or setting a static IP.

If you'd prefer, we can lie to you for a fee (that's called "consulting", by the way). Here's a sample:

"Realtek is just fine. Many, many users are happy with Realtek and definitely don't wish they were using an Intel NIC instead."

Well, the only thing you can do without changing your system they I can think right now is trying a USB to ethernet adapter (if they don't have a realtek NIC).
It's not suggested though.

Pretty much all do. And if you think the Realtek PCIe NICs are bad, wait until you try the USB ones.

openmediavault has no issue with my realtek btw so issue reesolved by not using Truenas

You just haven't noticed the issues. That's different than there being no issues. The Realtek chips are low performance and intended for Windows PC's, and lack many features like offload and multiple queues, so they will not be good in a server role.

ppl look for solutions not an article that seems to just say aw our program sucks with your device, thanks and have a great day

Can't help that. When you buy a Ford Fiesta and try to use it to haul a big U-Haul trailer, do you blame U-Haul for the trailer or do you blame Ford for a product that isn't up to the task? You're using a low performance Windows grade ethernet chip. Doesn't work well. That's baked into the silicon.

whatever jgreco, openmediavault is same setup as truenas scale somewhat as both are debian based with adding docker etc, so in theory maybe scale would work for me as well, so anyone else with this issue wanting to use truenas might want to try scale version, but you can close the discussion as im happy with my openmediavault

openmediavault is not the same setup as TrueNAS scale. OMV runs an installed package on a base Debian installation with incremental updates to the OS in a rolling-like process.
TrueNAS CORE and SCALE are storage appliances with a set software install specifically targeted at enterprise hardware; the OS is configured as a single package, and cannot be incrementally upgraded.

these are extremely different at the very core.

it's like putting Lamborghini tires on a Honda and expecting the Honda to drive like a Lamborghini. that isn't how reality works.

@atombrain , I'm sorry you don't like to hear the truth of the matter, but calling me names is childish. I took a few minutes out of my day to try to help you understand the answer to your question. I'm not paid to do this, and in the future I suggest you have the decency to treat others in the community with respect and thoughtfulness.

Oh, I *like* that. Do I have permission to borrow that in the future?

sure. lemme just make sure it's actually spelled correctly... auto-spell doesn't think it's even a word.
