Need some help... imported NTFS disk to a storage location where my pool was located, but apparently out of space

So, as the title says, I was running low on storage in my initial pool that I created. So, I added a 6TB external hard drive and imported to a subdirectory located in the Storage Pool. Drive imported successfully, but wasn't part of the pool itself. I was able to externally mount to the drive and transfer files. However, the files still count against the original pools storage capacity although they have been moved to the external drive. As such, I can not write to the new external drive or the old pool.

Any thoughts?

You misunderstood the purpose of the Import Disk function. This is to copy data from the external disk into a dataset in your pool, NOT to add a disk to the pool. Of course you're out of space.

What I think you intended to do is add the disk into an existing VDEV, or create a new VDEV from the external disk

It's not a good idea, however, to use USB for pool disks.

Thanks. Yeah tried that initially, but continued to fail w/ no helpful error code. I guess that I will just mount manually. Thanks

VDEV's typically can't be expanded after creation. (Mirror VDEVs can be expanded with additional drives, but you get no additional space, only additional redundancy.)

VDEV's typically can't be expanded after creation.

More specifically, RAIDZ vdevs cannot be widened. However, vdevs can be enlarged by replacing the component disk devices with larger disks.
