Is there a way to link/have access to files on another NAS drive in truenas and for plex to serve the media from that other nas drive?

In short: "not really"

Someone else came across this problem, and as it stands there's really no way to accomplish what I believe you're asking. Unless you don't mind getting into some nitty-gritty with the command-line and custom scripts.

It's trivial to do from a Windows or Linux PC, since you attach the network share and the Plex Server would see it as "just another folder." The problem is that TrueNAS does not officially utilize a native SMB client.

Of course, if the other NAS can use NFS (and if it can't, it really isn't worthy of being called a NAS), it's much simpler--but TrueNAS is still not designed to act as a client, only as a server.

Although the "client" is there... just run your mount statements in a post-init script. You may need to ensure that's done before starting plex.

I have done this with success with a TrueNAS SCALE 20.12-ALPHA instance running Plex in Docker which mounts storage that is in turn mounted via NFS from a TrueNAS CORE 12.0-U1.1 server.
