Hi,
i use freeNAS/trueNAS for a very long time now, my current system is based on a Asrock c2750 soc (https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=C2750D4I#Specifications). As some of you may know, this board has some problems which leads to a total stoppage after some time. Yesterday my system broke again (this is my third board) and i have to replace it again. Sadly, or maybe not, those boards are practically sold out everywhere, so i decided to replace it with a completely different one.

And that is my problem, i really do not know which board to buy, i hope to get some advice here. I definitely need a mini-ITX SOC again, i also want similar or better specs. So i tend toward buying another asrock like the EPYC3451D412-2T (https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=EPYC3451D4I2-2T#Specifications). I also heard that supermicro boards are pretty good. But i am totally open about that, i just did not know enough about the differences to make a qualified decision by myself. I just want to build the system and then just forget about it :)

Around 500 Euro (just for the board, new RAM not included) but I am somewhat flexible. I am willing to pay a good price to get a got quality board.
It seems that the Asrock board i mentioned is not yet available. But i found this one: C3758D4I-4L (https://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=C3758D4I-4L#Specifications). This also has an 8 core CPU (like the C2750) and has similar specs. What do you think? But I am still interested in alternatives too of course.

Okay, there some interesting boards you could get.

(1) more or less 1:1 replacement : Intel Atom C3758, 8C/8T, 2.20GHz, 16MB+2MB cache, 25W TDP, Codename "Goldmont" (Silvermont, 14nm). Asrock or Supermicro :

(2) AMD Epyc, first one is better since it has 8 Cores and only 30W TDP, which is very good as replacement for a low power Atom :

(3) Stronger than Atom Intel alternative : Intel Xeon D-2123IT, 4C/8T, 2.20-3.00GHz, 8MB+8MB cache, 60W TDP, Codename "Skylake-DE" (Skylake, 14nm)

With 500 Euro at hand an AMD Epyc is probably the best pic.

Thank you very much. I guess it is one of the first three you mentioned then. The epyc board seems very nice but only has 4 SATA ports, for my current setup i need 6 though. Do you have any recommendations for an expansion card too?

Well again this depends on budget but generally speaking: If you buy Supermicro a Supermicro HBA is a good choice. Here is a list of expension cards, look for "HBA mode" or "IT mode", they practically mean the same :

Another cheap solution would be this one:
It uses the JM585 Chipset, specs see here : https://www.jmicron.com/products/list/15
