I want to build another Truenas scale server to backup my truenas core and learn. But I really want a motherboard that has 2.5gbe natively, anyone mind sharing board memory and processor specs that has one up and running on scale. Thanks

Most people here will advise you SFP+ with fibre and that is smart if you can do that. I was reading a lot about 2,5Gbe, and when someone will write something here the advice is Intel - not Realtek - that is kinda confusing to me and here is why:

I225 had a design problem. Even with revision 3 (V3) of I225 there are still reports/problems with disconnects - I am not writing about TrueNAS Scale but other systems like windows, openwrt. Read this:

I wanna build router and firewall and I have to go with i226, it is a new one intel chip. I can chose between I225 V3 and I226, so I am going with i226 for router/firewall.

For server and workstation I will go with RTL8125BG - I am affraid of intel i225 even with V3 because of what I have read. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me will write about that topic?

This guy says it works on TrueNAS Scale

I haven't had a single issue since I first installed a PCI-e card that has the Intel i225-V (rev 03) chipset, on my TrueNAS Core 13 box.

Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller I225-V (rev 03)

It's a simple setup. Straight ethernet cable to a single client, with 9000 MTU configured on both ends.

Near 2.5 Gbps speeds.

Because discount hardware with discount firmware cuts so many corners that serious system issues are bound to happen "not just at the wrong time, but at the most wrong time." -me, if you're wondering

Why NOT to use Realtek - if_rl (read the code)

To understand that, watch this:

The bottom line is to look at the suggested hardware guide for what's known to be really, really stable (avoiding most edge cases), as stability is likely the reason you're using TrueNAS.

I also want to setup a new TrueNas system that will support 2.5gb, your post said you bought a PCI-e Intel i225-V card, can you leave a link if it was Amazon or Newegg and if not could you post a model # and brand.. thanks Jim
