Hi guys

I have my TrueNAS running on an 60 GB SSD. I would like to move it to my new 250 GB SSD. What's the easiest way to moving everything over the new disk?

You'll have to be a bit clearer. Your statement "I have TrueNAS running on a 60GB SSD" can be interpreted 2x ways:
  • Your TrueNAS boot pool is on the 60 GB SSD. If this is the case, the simplest way to migrate to a new SSD is to:
    1. Backup the config
    2. Remove the old SSD
    3. Do a fresh install to the new SSD, and
    4. Then reload the config to the new SSD.
  • Your data pool is on the 60GB SSD. If this is the case, the simplest way to migrate to the new SSD is to:
    1. Create a new pool on the new SSD
    2. Replicate everything from the old pool to the new pool
    3. Change all your shares to point to the new pool
    4. Change the system dataset to the new pool
    5. Designate the new pool as the iocage pool, and
    6. Then export/disconnect the old pool.

I would like to move away from USB to a blank SSD that is currently not in use. I was thinking along these lines:
https://www.truenas.com/docs/hub/tasks/advanced/mirror-boot-pool/

1. Attached new SSD to boot USB creating a mirror.
2. Once everything is mirrored detach USB from the mirror and be left with just an SSD.

Would this work?

I just tried this and it doesn't work due to a bug that demonstrates itself when migrating from USB boot device to SSD.
For details see:
https://jira.ixsystems.com/browse/NAS-108568
and this
https://www.truenas.com/community/t...-attach-to-mirrors-and-top-level-disks.89276/

Looks like restoring config on a new drive is the way to go for now, doesn't look like the bug is getting fixed anytime soon (Resolution: Behaves as Intended).
