Hello,

I'm building my first budget NAS for Home mostly for downloading media and PLEX.
I'm using a USB stick for plugins and SSD for FreeNAS boot.

My goal here is to have one/two pools with all my TV and movies.

I don't care much if I will lose some data as I have 1GB/s Fibre connection at home, but my worry is if one disk fails in a striped pool I will lose all my data won't I?

I have now 2xWD4TB RED and 4x 2.5" drives that were laying down at home that I wanted to use for now to end their life.
I thought about striping 2 WD4TB as the first pool so I will not lose any performance when striping them with 2.5" disks and striping the rest of disks in the second pool.
In the future, I'm planning to add more 3.5" WD RED Drives

I'm not sure if I want to use RAID as I will lose performance and space btw I know I can't put in RAID 2.5" various disks I'm talking about 2x WD RED.
I thought also about buying online backup service.

If I'll stripe disks in one pool and one fails do I lose all my data from the pool?
What would be the best option in your opinion?

Are you saying that this is what you have already done, or is this what you plan to do?

Yes, which is why we don't suggest doing that.

Yes, you would loose all your data from the pool and you are risking corruption of data because you would have no redundancy. ZFS can only protect you from data faults if you have some redundancy. In this configuration, you gain no benefit from FreeNAS.

Get more disks and setup a RAIDz2 pool.
