OK, I finally found some BSD related documentation but it appears its a bit more involved than just installing the Kodi pkg.

http://kodi.wiki/view/MySQL

I know nothing about MySQL but is it really necessary? I guess I'll keep reading on and use it as a chance to dive into MySQL. But if anyone can shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated!

If you tell us what you're trying to accomplish it may be easier to help you.

You should only install Kodi itself on a system that's going to be hooked up to your TV, which typically wouldn't be your FreeNAS system. Installing MySQL to have a central database is handy if you have more than 1 Kodi client, but this doesn't require Kodi to be installed.

Ahhh....thx for the clarification! Guess ill stick with Plex as my server then.

I primarily use the Plex app on Roku as my client and occasionally my laptop. So i can experiment with it on Windows no probs.

The plex client/server setup is really hard to beat. I have Plex installed on FreeNAS and 3 clients; a NUC in the living room, Plex Home Theater on my desktop and a RPi2 running rasplex in the bedroom.

When we travel I use the Rpi2 running Kodi and an external hard drive for a standalone player. Kodi shines as a stand alone player.

You could sync what you want to watch on plex also. ;) then it marks your status watched/unwatched when you connect back to your network.

Yeah but which one supports VOB files?... I am one of those snobs who want the entire experience to be exactly like the DVD/BluRay.

BTW, I am still running YAMJ to my PopCornHour boxes.. :p

I love menus, being able to actually see what is going on when I fast-forward/rewind, jumping to chapters.. etc...

Yeah, I am screwy like that.

Haven't made the jump to anything newer yet, but what turned me off about Plex is that it doesn't support VOB.

Just use makemkv and change the container. No quality loss at all and a much more compatible format.
