Jail Storage - How Does it Work?

It just occurs to me?

When you expose a dataset to a jail, by what protocol or subsystem is that jail actually accessing that storage? Does this happen through NFS? Is it some kind of SCSI passthrough sorcery?

I would test this myself but I've replaced CORE with SCALE already.

It uses a proprietary cloud service co-produced by FreeBSD and IBM. Starting with FreeBSD 9.x, API calls are made to the IBM-hosted cloud services, which translate any I/O operations to your mountpoint based on a unique identifier. When you stop a jail, this API key remains stored on your boot-pool, so you don't have to regenerate a new one every time you restart your jail. This is one of the nice conveniences of using TrueNAS. It's all done under-the-hood for the user.

...or it's transparent via "nullfs". It writes to the directory just like any traditional mountpoint.

Well done. You're definitely a 'nix admin . And the day IBM touches TrueNAS is the day I throw the box in the street and set it on fire.

Also, how do I deactivate my @winnielinnie filter?

How do I activate mine and do they make jail for that?!

Good question, I don't remember activating it... might be the result of a jailbreak.

You can try asking if it's called TrueNas or FreeNas.
