Hi

I seem to have problem with iscsi speeds with my windows machine (W7). Here is CrystalDiskMark From CIFS

and here is iscsi

I have two network cards in my freenas (9.2.1.7-RELEASE-x64) one is intel 10GBps ethernet card and another is 1GBps intel ethernet. I have confirmed that data actually is actually going through 1GBps on iscsi's case. Unfortunately i cannot figure out how to route traffic through 10gbps card since i have changed iscsi settings to connect through 10.0.0.1 ip (and not through 1gb card that has 192.168.1.7). So i am asking how do i route ip traffic through 10.0.0.1 since my target port from iscsi initiator has already been changed to 10.0.0.1 and if i rip out the 1gbps cable data starts going through 10gbps and does so even after i reattach the cable. Unfortunately after reboot it seems to use 1gbps again.

System:
BuildFreeNAS-9.2.1.7-RELEASE-x64 (fdbe9a0)
PlatformIntel(R) Core(TM) i3-4330T CPU @ 3.00GHz
Memory32126MB
HDD 3x 2TB wd red on raid-z1
NIC's : intel 10Gbps ethernet; intel 1Gbps ethernet

Not a big deal, but minor annoyance that i would like to get rid off. Still think Freenas is awesome!!! ZFS included in freenas makes windows file system seem like historical relic.

This is actually kind of funny.

First of all, sir, you do *NOT* have a 1 GBps ethernet. You have a 1 Gbps ethernet. Which is a HELL of a lot different than a 1 GBps ethernet. Your max ethernet speed, therefore, is 125MBps = 1Gbps. In Crystaldiskinfo (which measures in B not b), you should see up to about 125MBps , probably a bit less, if everything is working.

And lo, and behold! That's exactly what you see!

Your iSCSI performance is actually outstanding.

As for your other networking problems---they are just that, networking problems. Not FreeNAS problems. Maybe someone can help you though.

i do have 10Gbps ethernet card ( http://ark.intel.com/products/58953/Intel-Ethernet-Converged-Network-Adapter-X540-T1 ), but yea i did typo that "GBps" alot to deserve that.
So there is no way from freenas to disable iscsi service from listening slower 1Gbps nic and only listen 10Gbps nic? (still want to listen CIFS traffic from slower port though).

Yeah, that's 10Gigabit, which doesn't translate to 1Gigabyte/sec. I wish it did. I'd get more speed that way. ;)

I ran dual-"LAN" for a while. I had 1Gb throughout the house, but I had 10Gb directly connected between my desktop and server (with that exact card). I tend to think it's your network settings in the WebGUI, but I don't know exactly what because this is advanced networking we are talking, and a small non-obvious mistake on your part can result in lots of problems. ;)

Thanks for reply.
Yea i have exactly similar network configuration than you had. 1Gbps for every computer in the network, and since i couldn't afford 10gbps switch i just bought two 10gbps cards. The thing is that when i first installed freenas i had only 1gbps, and later added 10gbps card. To my knowledge, however, i changed every setting in windows iscsi initiator to direct traffic through 10gbps nic, and i was hoping there was either webgui setting to disable iscsi service from slower nic or through some configuration file if there is no web interface for it. Obviously my settings cant be terribly wrong if it uses 10gbps card when i have disconnected 1gbps cable.

I added my card later too (about 14 months ago now).

Yeah, I really can't help much unfortunately. I will tell you this. I'm running a Dell PowerConnect 5524 24-Port Gigabit + 2SFP ports and I paid $318 for it on ebay. Price of the 5524 fluctuates wildly, but if you watch it on ebay it'll come and go, so save up $300 or so and grab it when one shows up that is cheap. Right now the cheapest is about $400. So I now have 10Gb from my desktop to my LAN, and 10Gb from my FreeNAS server to my LAN, and everything else is 1Gb. I'm loving it because I don't have the dual network thing and I can have multiple machines saturating 1Gb simultaneously. Mwahaha!

Thanks for the tip. Not sure if i go with that since i basically have only desktop over 10gbps card and laptop over wifi->1gbps that uses freenas, so it would be kinda overkill, but that is definitely one way to solve the issue. I would rather use that $400 to buy 3x wd reds to upgrade read speeds and z1 to z2. Might consider that in the future though.

I was finally able to find what i was looking for. it is under services->iscsi->Initiators and there is authorized network.
