Dear All,
I am a happy owner of a FreeNAS 9.3.1 box based on the MB Supermicro A1SAi-2750F.
The MB has an IPMI interface which I have configured and access from command line with `ipmitool`.

I wonder what's the purpose of the FreeNas config Panel under Network->IPMI?
Should it point to the IPMI Interface address or it define another address at which the IPMI is offered?
Whatever value I fill, it always returns me `IPMI Failed`.

Thanks

It doesn't do much. It's just meant as a convenient way of handling very basic tasks that allow you to fix connections to IPMI, to use proper tools.

Also note that IPMI also has a web interface of its own, which generally configures some things much more easily than via ipmitool.

That's why I wonder on the purpose of the panel itself (I see the `ipmitool` as a command line alternative to the motherboard SMC Web Interface which requires Java).

Just to make clear: let's say my motherboard offers its own SMC IPMI interface available at 192.168.0.199.
In the IPMI panel what values should I put? so far whatever I put I receive an 'IPMI Failed' error

  • Channel: 1
  • Password: the ADMIN password in the SMC IPMI interface?
  • DHCP: Not Set
  • IPv4 Address: 192.168.0.199
  • IPv4 Netmask: /24 (255.255.255.0)
  • IPv4 Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
  • VLAN ID:

Thanks

Just don't mess with it. If IPMI is working to your liking, it's useless.

Fine,
it was just for sake of knowledge :)
I have some other more serious issues to look at :(

Thanks
