Hi There, I am using purevpn on my Linksys router would this be enough to secure my FTP if i was to connect it to the outside world?

the point of vpn is that you shouldn’t need to expose the server to internet. What you have sounds like an anonymousing service which only increases the risks, as you need to trust the provider with your data.

What you want for security when connecting to a server is a own hosted vpn server that is letting you in to your private network.

Is that the simplest way of doing it? ie what would be the simplest way of doing this safely?

What is it you're trying to do? If you'd use more than one sentence to ask the question, it would sure help. But if you're asking about exposing FTP to the outside world, don't. Just don't. Unless you're doing anonymous FTP with purely public data, don't.
