So i had this device working before but my usb boot device took a crap and i rebuilt it on a mirrored set of 32 gig ssd's just to be on the safe side for the future.

The problem is when i did this rebuild i took the opportunity to reset my raid layout on the controller and now after rebuilding and restoring my backup config using the previously created backup_dump file ZFS Vol Manager no longer sees the drives.
But if i click view DISKS it does.
The disks also show up in dmesg
and are freshly low level formatted so there is no old partitions or legacy junk on them.

The disks are visible in the zfs vol manager if i boot into the default configuration but i'd really rather not have to retype everything by hand.

Never-mind i fixed it myself

I used sqllite browser to remove the database Entries for the missing disks and then restored that db backup.

Problem solved.

You still very much have a problem as you're using a RAID controller with ZFS.

Enable HBA/passthrough mode via HP SSA (Smart Storage Admin) on that P420i or replace it with a HBA.

HBA Passthrough doesn't function on that controller with Freenas. I simply do not see any disks when i reboot it.
Replacing the controller is also not really a good option as the interior cabling to make it work is stupid expensive.

Given the 4 drive raid 10 mirror the non critical nature of the data this being a test lab and performance not really being a factor it's more than enough for my needs.

I appreciate the concern but in this case it just isn't important.

As long as you understand that caveat, that's fine. We just see way too many people way too frequently making that mistake without realizing it's an issue, so I mention it.

Thanks!
